A musical journey that began in 2018 has seen Lakeside resident Ntate Magesh develop his work in Sotho hip-hop, drawing on styles including tshepe, Stadiana and Sotho trap.
Raised in QwaQwa in the Free State, Magesh now lives in Lakeside, where he continues pursuing music.
“I do Sotho hip-hop like tshepe, Stadiana and Sotho trap,” he said.
Magesh identifies two stages in his journey: starting his music career in 2018 and beginning to work as an artist in 2022.
“I want people to hear my music and hear where I come from. Whether I’m doing tshepe, Stadiana or Sotho trap, I want to build a name for myself while staying true to my language and roots,” said Magesh.
His focus places Sesotho at the centre of his music, introducing him to local audiences as an artist working across several styles within Sotho hip-hop.
