Passing traditions from one generation to the next was at the heart of a dance and song competition at Amsai Primary School on 24 September.
More than 15 children’s groups and nine senior citizen groups took part, giving both generations a platform to express their heritage through performance.

Isiqalo took first place in the senior citizens’ category, followed by Raising Champions in second and Masikhuleni in third.
Qhakazani won the children’s category, with Siyaphambili finishing second and Raising Champions Kids third.
A panel of five judges selected the top three groups in each category. The winning children’s and senior citizens’ groups each received a trophy and R501, while runners-up received trophies.
“Heritage should never become something our children only read about. They need opportunities to sing it, dance it and make it their own,” said Dada Krishna.

“Our elders have carried these traditions for years; giving children a place alongside them helps that knowledge reach another generation.”
Dada Krishna credited Fish and Chips at Eyethu Mall in Orange Farm with sponsoring both cash prizes.
