Traditional initiation school principals across Gauteng have until 2 October to apply for registration ahead of the 2026 summer initiation season.
The Gauteng Provincial Government has officially opened applications for traditional initiation schools intending to operate during the upcoming summer season, with the registration period running from 1 September to 2 October.
The application process forms part of efforts to ensure initiation schools operating in the province comply with the necessary requirements and provide a safe and lawful environment for initiates.
According to the provincial government, all traditional initiation school principals who intend operating during the 2026 summer season are required to apply for registration.
Late applications will not be accepted.
The registration drive comes ahead of the summer initiation period, when traditional initiation schools are expected to receive initiates across different communities in the province.
By requiring schools to register before operating, authorities aim to strengthen oversight and ensure traditional practices are conducted within the applicable legal and safety framework.
Prospective initiation school principals are therefore encouraged to submit their applications before the 2 October deadline rather than waiting until the final days of the registration period.
Those requiring further information about the application and registration process can contact the Gauteng Provincial Government on 079 524 0736 or email Initiation@gauteng.gov.za.
Applications opened on Tuesday, 1 September.
