Victory stride! Nthatisi wins gold in 10km Walk at Urithi Legacy Road Race
On Saturday, 8 March, race walker Nthatisi Mokhele made a strong statement at the Urithi Legacy Road Race in Muldersdrift. Competing in the 10km Walk, she powered through the finish line in 1:01:27, securing first place and a gold medal.
This year’s race was particularly special, as it marked a positive shift in recognising race walkers. Previously, only runners received prize money, but in 2025, the organisers included financial rewards for walkers too-a big step forward for the sport.
“I’m happy to have won because it shows my training is paying off. It’s also great to see clubs acknowledging race walking and making changes to support us,” Mokhele shared.
Now, all focus shifts to the Central Gauteng Athletics Track & Field Championships happening this Friday and Saturday. Mokhele will be competing in the 20km Race Walk, aiming to qualify for the CGA team that will represent the province next month in Potchefstroom. With her winning form, she’s ready to take on the challenge!
