Lakeside Sakhile FC U15 crowned 2-Short Top 8 champions
Lakeside Sakhile FC U15 emerged victorious in the 2-Short Top 8 Soccer Tournament held in Zone 3, Evaton, on 3 and 4 December. The champions took home a trophy, gold medals and a brand-new kit.
The team displayed exceptional dominance, dedication and teamwork under the guidance of their coach, Kgomotso “Mawinki” Mazibuko, to clinch the championship title.
Their journey to glory was nothing short of thrilling, with all matches decided by penalty shootouts: Semi-final: Lakeside Sakhile 0–0 Lakeside Future Stars (5–4 on penalties)
Final group game: Lakeside Sakhile 1–1 Celta Academy (4–3 on penalties)
Final: Lakeside Sakhile 2–2 Citizens (5–3 on penalties)
The club, co-founded by Teboho Mokubung and Stephen “Papa” Nkoe, has long been a pillar of youth football development in the community. Based at the Nhlapo Ground in Lakeside Ext 2, the team trains across five divisions: U11, U13, U15, U17 and U21.
Reflecting on the victory, co-founder Nkoe said: “The team did well. We are proud of the boys and the coach for their great work. This win means a lot to us.”
The win is a testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a spirit of excellence among young footballers.
