PLPDL Community League concludes successful 2024 season
The Positive Living People Dinokeng Lekoa (PLPDL) Community Football League has wrapped up its third season, marking another milestone in its mission to develop grassroots football in Stretford Orange Farm.
Established in 2021 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league continues to unite local teams and promote social upliftment through sports. A Platform for Growth The league was born from a partnership between Positive Living People and Dinokeng Lekoa Academy. Its mission is to create affordable and accessible opportunities for local talent, offering a safe space for development and keeping players engaged in positive activities.
Over the years, the league has aimed to address challenges such as high travel costs and lack of proximity to competitive platforms. This community-driven initiative aspires to affiliate with the South African Football Association to elevate the standard of local football further.
Season highlights:
The 2024 season, which ran from February to October, featured eight teams competing in six tournaments across three fields. These tournaments included the Human Rights Day, Freedom Day, Worker’s Day, Youth Day, National Women’s Day and Heritage Day competitions. Standout performances came from Stretford Young Tigers FC and Vision 2025 FC, dominating various age categories.
Award ceremony:
An award ceremony will take place on December 7, 2024, to celebrate the season’s achievements. Prizes will include trophies, medals, soccer kits, and cash awards, recognising both team and individual excellence.
Partners in success:
The league’s success is supported by partnerships with the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, and the Uncle 11 Festival Games. These collaborations have been instrumental in fostering community spirit and enabling the league’s growth.
Looking ahead
As the league closes the chapter on 2024, its organisers expressed gratitude to sponsors, volunteers and community members. They remain committed to developing young talent and promoting sportsmanship, with ambitious plans for the 2025 season.
