Body of unidentified male discovered in Lakeside Ext 1 dam
The quiet of a Friday morning was shattered when, at around 9am, police were alerted to a grim discovery near the dam in Lakeside Ext 1.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found the body of an unidentified African male, estimated to be between 20 and 30 years old, lying in a field close to the water’s edge. The deceased, who showed no visible injuries, was dressed in blue trousers, a black jersey and black sneakers.
This discovery has heightened the concerns of local residents, who shared that several bodies have been found near or in the dam over time. Many fear that the dam has become a dumping ground, with suspicions that victims are murdered elsewhere before being dumped there.
A resident who witnessed the scene shared her shock: “In the morning, we saw something in the dam that looked like a black plastic bag. When we looked closer, we realized it was a man and alerted the police. This isn’t the first time this has happened and it’s alarming. He doesn’t seem to be from around here, as no one could identify him.”
Sergeant Motsapi, the communication officer for Orange Farm SAPS, confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. “The reason for his death is currently unknown. We are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the deceased or locate his family members,” Sgt Motsapi stated.
Community members who might have information about the deceased’s identity or the events leading to his death are urged to contact Orange Farms SAPS on the following numbers: (011) 213-8023/8025/071 675 7234 or 08600 1011.
