Shoes, sports and smiles: Rhonwen Foundation brings love to Orange Farm Children’s Home

The children of Orange Farm Children’s Home received an inspiring boost on 26 October 2024, thanks to the generosity of the Rhonwen Holdings Foundation (RHF) and its dedicated team of sponsors and well-wishers. The event, marked by community spirit and support, included donations of essential sports and school items, which brought smiles and a sense of joy to the children and staff.

RHF expressed heartfelt gratitude to key sponsors who made the day possible, including the Gauteng Gambling Board, Makro Riversands’ Sports Department, and Debonairs Eyethu Mall, who provided discounts on sports equipment and refreshments. The support extended by these organizations and community members has been invaluable to RHF’s mission of empowering the youth in Orange Farm, especially through sports and community-building initiatives.

As part of the donations, RHF provided movable netball posts, three netball balls, netball bibs, two soccer balls, and 24 pairs of school shoes, adding excitement to the day’s activities. Special thanks were extended to Coach Thuli, Shirley, Luvuyo, Ntokozo, and Nthabiseng, who organized games and activities that brought the kids together and highlighted teamwork and fun. Soccer coach Luvuyo Makhatsane, as well as community figure “Fabulously Lulu,” who contributed to the shoe donations, played key roles in ensuring the day’s success.

Sharon Dube, a Social Worker based at the Orange Farm Children’s Home, shared her gratitude: “We are ecstatic about the support we’ve received. It’s incredible to see so many caring individuals and businesses come together for our children. As we approach the festive season, we call upon residents, businesses, and well-wishers to continue supporting us. Let’s make this season unforgettable for our kids and fill their Christmas with happiness and love.”

The outreach event was an occasion of deep community connection, with everyone coming together to support the home and make the children feel valued. For many of the children, these donations and interactions are memorable experiences that encourage them to believe in themselves and see the community rally behind them.

RHF and its sponsors are committed to supporting the Orange Farm Children’s Home and are calling on more businesses and residents to join them in their mission. With the festive season approaching, the home and its supporters hope for even greater participation to brighten the holidays for the children of Orange Farm.
