Seven killed, four injured in Orange Farm mass shooting
In a shocking incident, seven people, including a three-year-old boy, lost their lives in a shooting spree at Mokokotlong informal settlement early this morning, October 13.
2024.According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded when a dispute erupted between a local resident and a tavern owner. The resident had attempted to purchase alcohol at the tavern, only to find it closed. The situation escalated into an altercation, prompting the resident to return home.
Tragically, the tavern owner followed the resident to his dwelling, where family members were celebrating lobola negotiations. The suspect opened fire, claiming the lives of seven individuals, including five family members, a neighbor and a friend.
Four people survived the shooting, with two – a 31-year-old and a one-year-old boy – rushed to hospital for treatment. A 24-year-old woman and a four-year-old child escaped unharmed.In a stunning turn of events, the suspect drove to Evaton and allegedly took his own life.
He succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit has registered seven counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder and an inquest.
