Amakhosi eyeing Carling Cup trophy to fill nine season void

Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to win their first silverware in nine seasons by winning the second edition of the Carling Cup. Amakhosi have been drawn against SuperSport United in the first round of the last 16 matches.

Chiefs have not won an official trophy in nine seasons but this season they have shown tremendous signs of improvement under new coach Nassredine Nabi. They have won two of their three league matches this season. But they have been handed a tough draw against SuperSport United in the Carling Cup first round match.

Their goalkeeper Brandon Peterson is confident they will win the Carling Cup.“The past hasn’t been good for us, but the team has been gelling well in the couple of games we’ve played. Why not start with the Carling Cup as the first trophy of our season?” says Peterson.

Orlando Pirates will be looking for their 5th trophy in three seasons under coach Jose Riveiro. They recently won the MTN8 trophy last weekend after beating Stellenbosch FC in the final.

Carling Cup is the only trophy Riveiro has missed out on since his arrival in the country.Pirates player Bandile Shandu says they will build on the momentum of winning the MTN8.

“We respect each and every team we come across is no different. Facing Magesi we going to treat them with respect as well but playing at home will give us an advantage and we want to build on the success in the MTN8,” says Shandu.

Reigning champions Stellenbosch will be looking to win their second trophy in top-flight football.
