Artistic brilliance unleashed:#BarriersInSociety exhibition illuminates local talent

On Saturday, 28 September, the vibrant world of visual arts came alive at ArtStudio@5018 in Ext 3, thanks to the vision of Tebogo Nemutudi, affectionately known as The Art Chef.

Curated by the esteemed artist Mzie Gojo, this remarkable exhibition, themed #BarriersInSociety, transformed the studio into a veritable Louvre, with walls adorned by a dazzling array of paintings and drawings reminiscent of masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci.

The exhibition was not merely an aesthetic celebration but a powerful movement towards inclusivity. It sought to unite young artists with their peers from Orange Farm and beyond, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents for the first time.

The aim was to cultivate artistic portfolios and personal biographies while fostering a sense of community through the universal language of art. A key focus of the exhibition was to raise awareness of the social challenges faced by individuals living with disabilities.

By unpacking these issues through art, the event encouraged attendees to engage with one another and to inspire aspiring artists to narrate their stories creatively.

The impressive turnout included submissions from both emerging talents and established figures, such as Thabo Motseki, the founding member of The Art Company Soweto (TACS), who displayed his work in solidarity with the cause.

Despite the resounding success of the event, a clarion call echoed from attendees, parents, local businesses, and community members alike urged greater support for the development of young artists.

The organisers expressed their heartfelt gratitude, stating: “Thanks to all artists and individuals involved in making this exhibition a triumph. A special thank you to ArtStudio@5018 for opening their doors and graciously hosting us.”

For those inspired by this artistic showcase, the opportunity to support local talent remains open. Interested art enthusiasts can purchase displayed artworks by reaching out to The Art Chef on social media or via WhatsApp on 083 484 7317 or by visiting ArtStudio@5018.
