Prepare for Wednesday morning power cuts: Eskom’s Load Reduction set to affect Orange Farm and surroundings
Residents of Orange Farm and surrounding areas are advised of a scheduled load reduction on the morning of Wednesday, 21 August 2024. Eskom has announced that due to ongoing issues with illegal connections and electricity theft, which place an excessive burden on transformers and mini-substations, load reduction will be necessary to protect the infrastructure.
Affected Areas
The load reduction will be implemented between 05:00 and 09:00 in the following areas:
- Orange Farm: Extensions 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8
- Stretford: Extensions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10
- Sharpeville: Including outlying areas and Tshepiso
- Elandsfontein AH: Including Homestead Apple Orchards AH-West, Ironside AH-West, Vereeniging NU Outlying-C, Blignautsrus AH, Golf View SH, Drumblade AH, Klipview AH-East, Klipview AH-North, Roodepoort
- Lakeside Ext 5: Including Balmoral Estates, De Deur, Walkers Fruit Farms AH-East
- Evaton: Including Evaton Central, Evaton Small Farms, Evaton West
Eskom urges all residents to turn off their electrical appliances before the scheduled load reduction and to keep them off until power is fully restored. This precaution will help prevent damage to household appliances due to power surges when electricity supply returns. Failing to switch off appliances may result in transformer trips, failures, and costly damage to electronics.
Residents are reminded that this is a planned load reduction and should not report it as an outage. Instead, the community is encouraged to be vigilant and report any illegal connections, meter bypasses, or vandalism of electricity infrastructure to Eskom’s Crime-Line at 0800 11 27 22.
This load reduction is a necessary measure to ensure the continued stability of the electricity supply in Orange Farm and surrounding areas. Residents are urged to cooperate fully to prevent further disruptions.
