Tributes pour in for veteran actress Connie Chiume
South Africans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the veteran actress Connie Chiume. Her family has confirmed that she died on Tuesday, at the Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, at the age of 72.
The multi-award-winning Chiume is known for her role in productions including the international film Black Panther as well as local programmes such as Zone 14 and Gomora. From stage to film, Chiume starred in Impi Ntombi, Little House of Horrors and Warriors of Hell.
On the small screen, fans and families gathered around the lounge to watch her bring alive characters such as Stella Moloi on SABC 1’s Zone 14 – a role that earned her a South African Film and Television Award (Safta), and Mamokete Khuse on Rhythm City. In 2018, Chiume starred in the Marvel movie Black Panther alongside other international stars.
