J Roy shines as Goalkeeper of the Tournament in Jamming Soccer Celebrity event!
Bhekithemba ‘J Roy’ Mthembu, a prominent figure from Orange Farm, has been honoured with the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award at this year’s Jamming Soccer Celebrity Tournament, held this month.
Known for his diverse talents as a singer, producer and director, J Roy proved his prowess on the football field by keeping a clean sheet throughout the tournament. The tournament featured teams representing various genres, including Hip-Hop, Maskandi, Gospel and Gqom.
J Roy, part of the Hip Hop team led by Big Zulu, secured a 2-0 victory over the Maskandi team, headed by Khuzani and a 1-0 win against the Gqom team, led by DJ Tira.
The Hip Hop team continued their winning streak on 27 July, defeating the Super 11 (a combination of Maskandi and Gospel artists) led by Dumi Mkokstad and Thuthani, with a score of 1-0 at Mbombela Stadium.
Expressing his joy, J Roy said, “I’m happy to be named Goalkeeper of the Tournament. I made massive saves and helped my team win the tournament. Being part of the Hip Hop team was amazing and being among such great artists was an honour. Being watched on TV by many people was an achievement. I want the youths of Orange Farm to be inspired and know that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. For me, representing my community, whether in sport, music, or films, is important. I want to pave the way for others and see all of us achieve our dreams-that’s my goal.”
