Celebrating Mandela Day: Little Pina Pina Day Care Centre engages young minds with fun and education
Extension 1’s Little Pina Pina Day Care Centre had a memorable Mandela Day celebration filled with joy and learning.
The children participated in various activities, including singing, painting the National flag and creating portraits of Nelson Mandela. The celebration was not just about fun; it was also an educational experience.
Maki Hlatshwayo, the founder of Little Pina Pina Day Care Centre, emphasized the importance of the event: “While the children enjoyed the day’s activities, the key aspect was teaching them about Nelson Mandela and the significance of Mandela Day. We wanted them to understand why we celebrate this day each year and the history behind it. Sharing our history with the little ones is crucial, as knowledge is power. By educating them, we hope to foster a generation that is well-informed and empowered.”
Hlatshwayo expressed gratitude to the Isomzi patrollers for dedicating their 67 minutes at Little Pina Pina, where they helped wash carpets, mattresses and even assisted with painting alongside the children.
The day was a blend of entertainment and education, helping the children appreciate the legacy of Nelson Mandela and the values he stood for.
