Pikitup warns of fraudulent general workers advert on social media

Pikitup is alerting the public to a fraudulent general workers’ advertisement circulating on social media platforms. This fake advertisement appeared after the legitimate application window for general worker positions closed on 10 June 2024.

The fraudulent advertisement contains several red flags:

•It misleadingly states an application deadline of 30 June 2024, which is entirely fictitious.

•It instructs applicants to contact Pikitup via WhatsApp, whereas genuine applications require email communication and online submission through a specific link (not included in the fake advertisement).

The public is strongly advised not to engage with or respond to this deceptive advertisement. Pikitup expresses deep disappointment at this incident, particularly following the casual worker strike last month.

During that strike, casual workers resorted to violence to demand permanent employment from the company, disrupting waste collection services across Johannesburg. The extension of the application deadline in the fake advertisement raises serious concerns.

Pikitup suspects it may be a deliberate tactic used by the perpetrators to:

•Exploit desperate job seekers.

•Disrupt Pikitup services once again.

•Pressure the company into hiring individuals who missed the official application window.Given these circumstances, Pikitup urges the public to exercise caution and completely disregard this fake job advertisement.
