Black Vultures beat Arsenal to claim Stokvel Cup
The OFLFA Super League’s Stokvel Cup unfolded from 29 March to 1 April at the Nhlapho and Exchange Grounds, culminating in a thrilling showdown where Black Vultures emerged victorious over their longstanding rivals, Arsenal, clinching the championship title.
In the electrifying first semifinal, Black Vultures soared past Young Golden Boys with a close 3-2 victory. Meanwhile, in the second semifinal, Arsenal engaged in a tense battle with AZ Ramblers, resulting in a 2-2 draw. Despite the deadlock, Arsenal secured their spot in the final after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout, prevailing 5-3.
The highly anticipated final match witnessed Black Vultures and Arsenal locked in a 1-1 draw, intensifying the drama. However, Black Vultures ultimately triumphed in the penalty shootout, securing a narrow 5-4 victory and clinching the championship.
Acknowledging the stellar performances, Mokwena, a representative of the league, expressed gratitude to Muhlupheki Simon Ndaba for generously donating the trophy and medals.
The winning teams received cash prizes, with the champions claiming R2000, followed by R500 for the runners-up and R300 for the third-place team.
