High-caliber tournament pays tribute to MJ Nhlapo

The much-anticipated MJ ‘ANKEL’ Nhlapo Soccer Tournament slated for March 21, faced an unexpected hurdle as heavy rain marred the event, forcing an incomplete schedule.

Despite the weather’s interference, the U11 and 13 categories managed to complete their finals on the same day, while the U15 and 17 matches were rescheduled for Sunday. This tournament was attended by the Department of Sports and Recreation Gauteng reprentatives.

It was a day filled with excitement and anticipation until the unfavorable weather disrupted proceedings. However, efforts were made to ensure that the young participants were catered to, with food provided once the rain subsided, allowing them to return home safely.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, champions emerged from four different divisions: Stretford Young Tigers FC claimed victory in the U11 category, defeating Positive Living People FC with a commanding 6-0 scoreline in the initial finals.

Vision 2025 FC secured the title in the under 13 division, triumphing over Stretford Young Tigers FC with a convincing 3-0 victory in the second finals.

In the U15 finals, Dona’s Mates FA emerged as champions after a dominant 5-0 win against Positive Living People FC.

The U17 finals witnessed a fiercely contested match between Drieziek Young Tigers FC and Stretford Young Tigers FC, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Ultimately, Stretford Young Tigers FC emerged victorious with an 8-7 win in a nail-biting penalty shootout, showcasing remarkable resilience and determination.

Amidst the tournament’s conclusion, a special moment occurred during the ceremony as MJ Nhlapo was honored with the trophy he rightfully deserved, acknowledging his significant contributions to the competition.
