Ward 5 Unite Soccer Tournament set to kick off tomorrow at Roma’s Grounds in Ext 7a

Excitement is mounting as the highly anticipated Ward 5 Unite Soccer Tournament is poised to kick off at 10am tomorrow at Roma’s Ground in Ext7a with Masters teams ready to face off for the ultimate prize.

Endorsed by Ward 5 Cllr Mxolisi Ndzondo and organised by Lebohang Sol Lehana, Vusimuzi Nxumalo and Tshepo Spago Mokgosi, the tournament is more than just a sporting spectacle it serves as a rallying point for residents across the Wars to unite.

Masters teams from all the Ward’s voting districts, including Ext 7a, 8a, Drieziek 1, 2, 3, and 5, Kapoko, and Poortjie are gearing up for fierce yet friendly competition.

Central to the tournament’s ethos is its role in addressing pressing social issues such as crime, gender-based violence, and substance abuse within the ward while also promoting active lifestyles and providing a platform for dialogue. The organisers told Orange Farm News: “Through sports, we seek to foster solidarity and resilience while empowering individuals to effect positive change within their community. The tournament presents an opportunity for residents to come together, celebrate their shared identity, and build lasting connections. With prizes including trophies, medals, soccer kits, and substantial cash rewards on offer, the stakes are high, but the true victory lies in the sense of unity and purpose that the event embodies.”
