‘Eswatini arrests not linked to AKA’s murder’

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has denied reports that two men who were arrested in Eswatini are being linked to the murder of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Forbes and Motsoane were gunned down outside a restaurant in a popular Durban nightlife area on Florida Road last year. The Times of Eswatini reported that two brothers, who were arrested in the Kingdom last Friday, are linked to the murder of a musician. Mkhwanazi says the suspects, who are to be extradited, are wanted in connection with a shooting in Durban’s Berea in March last year, unrelated to the AKA murder.

He says the complex AKA murder investigation is continuing. Mkhwanazi says, “It is a prosecutor-guided investigation that we are busy with and we are in a sensitive stage. I’ve indicated before that, there’s so much of information that the team continues to analyse.”

“The data that we have at our disposal that we are analysing, different video footages that are being watched, cellphone accounts or conversations that are being analysed. We are in a sensitive stage. Despite some of the recoveries that we’ve had in the past, there’s still other progress that we are making as a team,” he adds.
