Messi Academy wins Lucas Mau-Mau Foundation tournament
The Lucas Mau-Mau Foundation Soccer Tournament U14 culminated in an exhilarating final showdown on 11 February at the Multipurpose Grounds, where Messi Academy claimed the championship title.
In the thrilling final match, Messi Academy emerged victorious over Wolves FC with a score of 1-0, culminating in a memorable conclusion to the tournament.
Here’s a breakdown of the winners and their accolades:
Champions: Messi Academy – Prizes: World cup trophy, 2 soccer balls, 15 gold medals, and 15 certificates of participation. Coach of the Tournament: Mokete Mosoeu- R500 cash prize and a trophy. Defender of the Tournament: Katleho Hlanyane.
Runners-up: Wolves FC- Prize: One soccer ball and 15 silver medals.- Top Goalscorer: Paballo Motlatla (7 goals).
Third place: Action Sports Club – Prize: 15 bronze medals. Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Lefume Morobe.
Fourth place: Lakeside Juventus FC- Prize: R100.- Player of the Tournament: Lebohang Mohlatsane.
Special thanks were extended to the sponsors, including the Mau-Mau family and friends, Siza Shange from Shange Petroleum, Mdu Ludidi from Inkonjane Design, and Xolani (Mr. X), whose financial support contributed to the event’s success.

Looking ahead, four players will undergo assessments with an elite team, and the champions, Messi Academy, will engage in a friendly match with a PSL development team.
Additionally, quarter-final and semi-final results were highlighted, along with the tournament’s stance against age cheating, emphasizing fair play and integrity in youth football.
