Afrika Tikkun’s Arekopaneng Centre drives empowerment for Orange Farm ECD educators through collaborative initiatives
Afrika Tikkun, in collaboration with ATB and Think Equal, joined forces to empower Early Childhood Development (ECD) educators in Orange Farm.
Recognizing education as a fundamental human right, their groundbreaking initiative unfolded in 128 classrooms from January 15-17, 2024.
Sponsored by Capitec Bank, the transformative training at the Afrika Tikkun Arekopaneng Centre generated enthusiasm among educators. The ATB curriculum, aligned with the South African Department of Education, and Think Equal, a psychosocial program, covered social and emotional aspects of child development.
During the sessions, teachers eagerly explored Think Equal’s teachings, including the “mood meter” introduction, allowing educators to reflect on their emotional state daily. This personalized approach garnered positive feedback, fostering an environment where teachers freely shared challenges and sought solutions through group activities.
Selina Hlakane from Curusa’o Early Learning Centre said: “The team was supportive, the environment allowed us to express ourselves, and going forward, we are going to see ECD Centres that produce good results because of the knowledge we gained.”
The success of the merged curriculums marks a promising start to an innovative educational approach, demonstrating immense potential for enhancing early childhood education in Orange Farm.
