Ext 4’s Race walking sensation, Nthatisi Mokhele, triumphs in CGA Race Walking trials: Sets sights on International glory and Local dominance

Nthatisi Mokhele, the talented Race Walking athlete from Orange Farm Ext 4, emerged victorious at the 20km Senior Women’s category in the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Race Walking Trials held at the Boksburg Stadium on 13 January.

Mokhele, a member of Sandton Based Ikhayalethu Athletics Club, completed the race in 2:16:43 and was followed by Thubelihle Chillenge and Elvirah Maphosa who came in second and third respectively.

Reflecting on the race, Mokhele told Orange Farm News: “Although slightly outside the Qualifying time and my personal best in the 20km, I’m happy with the victory and plan to analyze and rectify the mistakes I made during the race to further enhance my performance.”

Next on the horizon for Mokhele is the Johnson Crane event on 28 January, where she will be competing in the 21km category.

With a packed schedule ahead, including the Olympics and Race Walking Team World Championships in April in Turkey, Mokhele aims to qualify for the World Championships. She added: “My objective is not only to gain valuable racing experience overseas but to also secure victories in local races and improve my times
