Fortune Makaringe embracing new role at Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates utility player Fortune Makaringe has described his new role as something normal in football which is expected from him as a professional.

Makaringe, mainly known as an offensive midfielder, has played the last two matches against Richards Bay FC and Moroka Swallows as a right-wing-back and he’s come out of it unscathed.

Pirates collected four points from a possible six in these games and kept clean sheets in both, with Makaringe reacting positively to this new change.

“It’s a very interesting indeed. While for me it’s just playing football and for the team, I’ll be honest with you, when my employer employed me, they didn’t tell me I was coming to play a certain position,” said Makaringe.

“They employed an employee that was going to be ready to work in the team, so for me playing in that position is not something that’s unfamiliar, we’ve prepared for it a long time ago. I’ve always been prepared to play anywhere, so it was just me coming in and playing.”

It’s a very complicated sport when it’s played by people who make football very difficult, but luckily for me, I play with players that understand the game even better. So I knew very well that it wouldn’t be much of a train smash for me coming in because the players I’m playing with understand the game and it’s about me just going in and applying myself in a proper way,” he added.

Bucs coach Jose Riveiro is no stranger to assigning players to new positions, with left-footed Paseka Mako having been deployed at right-wing-back last season.
