Police arrest Boitekong woman for reporting a false rape case

Police in Boitekong arrested a 29-year-old woman on 26 November, after registering a false rape case.

The accused alleged that her former boyfriend raped her on 25 November. As part of investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, the Investigating Officer took the woman to the Doctor for medical examination.

According to information, the Doctor was about to examine the woman when she informed the Investigating Officer that she was not raped and she reported the case to extort money from her former boyfriend. Thus, a case of perjury was registered and the woman was arrested.

Ayanda Jim made her first court appearance on Tuesday, 28 November. She was remanded in custody until 18 December.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the members for taking decisive action against the accused.

He cautioned that incidents such as this one, are tantamount to abusing state resources and at the same deny the deserving members of the community of the much needed services.
