Vaal Zion Music Awards celebrates Ubuyoni
Vaal Zion Music Awards recently celebrated Ubuyoni at their inaugural event on 11 November at the Multipurpose Centre.
Organized by Mthembeni and Nonhlanhla Duma, the awards aimed to bring vibrancy to Orange Farm through faith-centric activities. Despite facing financial challenges in 2021, the Dumas persevered, taking a year to plan and accumulate funds for this remarkable event.
The awards were presented by Dumazile Mabaso and Mpumi Masondo.
Nhlanhla Duma shared told Orange Farm News: “Although it’s our first, we plan to make this an annual affair. Our vision is to create a lasting legacy, involving the youth and providing support to those with creative talents and qualifications, ultimately contributing to the community.”
The event recognized outstanding churches and choirs, including The New Damascus and United Holy Combined Choristers.
Categories spanned Best Ubuyoni, Best Umgwabo, Best Cleanliness and Uniform, Best Choral and Song of the Year. United Holy Combined Choristers emerged as the big winners, securing four awards, including Best Choral, Best Umgwabo, Best Cleanliness and Song of the Year with ‘Mercy.’
The New Damascus also claimed the Best Ubuyoni award. The voting process, conducted through a link, ensured a fair selection of winners.
Looking ahead, the Dumas plan to host the 2nd chapter of the event next year.
Guest choirs from Kagiso and Ekurhuleni, such as Good Tidings and Seeds of Hope, graced the occasion, alongside the stellar MC Thabang Tsotetsi.
VIPs and choirs were catered for by Madlamini and the ladies.
