Themba Limekhaya of Mkhukhu Pizza strives to empower kasi entrepreneurs

Themba Limekhaya, the visionary behind Mkhukhu Pizza, is eager to pass on entrepreneurial expertise to the youth in the local community.

Limekhaya founded his business in 2021, with the invaluable assistance of Germinah Mookho Mashila. Commencing his venture within a shack in Ext 3, despite encountering various challenges, his entrepreneurial journey has been a rich learning experience driven by an unwavering passion to contribute back to the community.

After facing family challenges, Themba relocated to Senotlhelo in Bloemfontein, where he also ran a pizza business. He later returning to Orange Farm to continue his pizza venture in the same shack where it all began.

His journey took a turn when local youths Siyabonga Kobokoane, Mzwandile Mlangeni, and Mthokozisi Mendela discovered his delicious creations, sparking the social media trend of “Mkhukhu Pizza.”

The menu features a variety of flavors, including Russian pizza, chicken mayo, beef mince, vegetarian, bacon, and Lucky Star Pilchards pizzas. However, due to limited resources and a makeshift oven, fulfilling orders has been challenging.

Despite receiving donations for a wood pizza oven in August 2022, financial constraints persist. Now operating from a rented space near BP garage in Ext 3, Themba remains passionate about making pizza accessible in townships and rural areas, emphasizing innovation and resourcefulness.

Mkhukhu Pizza, a division of TREBNZ (Township Rural Entrepreneurship to Business Network Zone), is registered with CIPC and has gained recognition through various media features and interviews. Notable achievements include interactions with philanthropists, interviews on local podcasts and radio stations, press coverage in prominent newspapers, and showcasing Mkhukhu Pizza at significant expos.

Themba’s future plans involve expanding Mkhukhu Pizza in Vaal and other regions, offering opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs to start their pizza businesses with training and affordable ingredient supplies.Themba aims to mentor and train youth interested in the pizza business with a minimal starting budget.
