Mphethi Mahlatsi emerges victorious in Swidi Wodwa Schools Soccer Tournament

Mphethi Mahlatsi emerged triumphant as champions of the Swidi Wodwa Schools Soccer Tournament in a stunning comeback. Overcoming a 3-3 draw against Qedilizwe Secondary School, they secured victory with a 4-3 penalty shootout.

Qedilizwe, initially dominating and drawing first blood, left Mphethi to rally for an equalizer. Despite Qedilizwe consistently taking the lead, Mphethi orchestrated a comeback, leading to the thrilling penalty shootout at Ext 1 Park on September 28, providing fans with the entertainment and goal-filled spectacle they craved.

The Swidi Wodwa Schools top-16 Tournament kicked off on 7 September across venues like Piano Ground Driezik4, Exchange 7B, Sthende 6B, and Mighty Green.

Mphethi Mahlatsi’s victory earned them a trophy, gold medals, eight pairs of school shoes and a prize of R3000. Runners-up Qedilizwe received new jerseys with Swidi Wodwa and Timeline Radio branding, along with silver medals and eight pairs of Toughees school shoes.

Tournament organizers, Muzi Tso Hadebe, Sandile Jemba Dlamini and Taki Lovemore Sithole, expressed satisfaction, thanking participating schools and the Orange Farm community for their support.

Muzi Hadebe, speaking to Orange Farm News, conveyed the schools’ appreciation, making the organizers feel honored. Special thanks were extended to sponsors Timeline Radio, MFDN, MMK Metering Services and Expert Capital Venture.
