Suspect arrested for double murder in Zamdela

A 33-year-old suspect has been arrested for double murder and attempted murder at the parking area of a Chesanyama in Zamdela.

It is alleged that on Saturday at about 01:55, the police were patrolling near Kwa Nduna Chesanyama when they heard gunshots and people screaming. Suddenly, the police noticed a grey Mercedes Benz without registration numbers driving at a high speed from the direction where the gunshots came from.

The police gave chase and pursued the vehicle until it intercepted. An unknown male alighted from the vehicle carrying a firearm and the police managed to disarm him. The police returned to the crime scene and conducted a preliminary investigation, which revealed that the suspect was spinning his vehicle and randomly firing shots through the driver’s window, which led to three unknown males being shot.

One of the three victims died at the scene, while the second victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and the third victim is still in the hospital receiving medical treatment.

The suspect will appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 21 August on charges of murder, attempted murder, discharge of the firearm in a municipal area, handling of the firearm while under the influence and reckless and negligent driving.
