City of Joburg’s Operation Cut Off begin in Region E where a few properties were cut off

City of Joburg is on the road to various establishments that are owing the City rates and have not responded to the city’s call to rectify their bill.

When an account is in arrears. The City’s Joburg Finance department will send a pre-termination letter which gives an establishment 14 days to settle the account.

Once the city has disconnected the establishment from the water and electricity supply. The company will have to pay a reconnection fee and settle their bill to get reconnected.

The first establishment is a motor spares company that owes the City R5.3 million for both water and electricity. The business is also illegally connected to an electrical line.

The second location which is a retirement village that owes the city R13.6 million in rates. The representative of the retirement village discussed meter readings with the credit control officials.The retirement village has said that it will pay 50% of its bill to not get cut off from the electricity and water supply.

In Midrand at the Country View Estate where the estate is owing just over R7 million and the water and electricity supply will be cut off.

The City officials landed in Ferndale, Randburg where an old hotel property is currently shut down and owes R28 million. The water and electricity infrastructure was removed.

In Windsor East where an apartment building has illegally connected to electricity and currently owes the City R6 million. More illegal connections were found on the property.
