Digital fingerprint system launched for immediate identification of unclaimed and unidentified bodies

The Gauteng Health and Forensic Pathology Services (FPS) has introduced a digital fingerprint system to improve the quality of fingerprints collected by using biometrics technology to access the Home Affairs database enabling immediate identification of unclaimed and unidentified bodies.

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi and Gauteng Health MEC, Nkomo Nomantu, launched the Forensic Pathology Services (FPS) digital fingerprint system in Germiston, Ekurhuleni.

Nkomo says by embracing this technological advancement, FPS will be able to deliver services with unparalleled speed and efficiency. With reduced waiting times, allowing for timely resolutions and a more compassionate approach to forensic pathology services.

The Forensic Pathology Service team demonstrates to Premier Lesufi and MEC Nkomo how the digital fingerprint system enables swift identification of unclaimed and unidentified bodies.
