City maintains supply during scheduled Rand Water maintenance

Johannesburg Water has taken proactive measures to guarantee uninterrupted water supply during Rand Water’s scheduled shutdown between 7pm on Tuesday, 11 July and 5pm on Friday, 14 July 2023.

The City entity says stationary and roaming water tankers have been strategically deployed to affected areas to mitigate any water supply disruptions. The purpose of the water shutdown is to proactively address potential infrastructure breakdowns and enhance the maintenance of critical, ageing infrastructure.

Infrastructure Services Department (EISD), says Johannesburg Water will station tankers at hospitals, clinics, municipal offices, schools, and police stations throughout the shutdown period.

“Mobile tankers will also be available across the City to ensure continued water supply until full restoration is achieved,” says MMC Sekwaila. Joburg Water urges residents to show consideration and conservation while collecting water from tankers, emphasising the importance of preserving water for others in need.

Nombuso Shabalala, spokesperson for Joburg Water, says the municipal’s water infrastructure, such as the Dunkeld Reservoir, Boschkop Reservoir, Randpark Ridge Reservoir, Cosmo City Reservoir, Aeroton Reservoir, Aeroton Tower, Berea Reservoir, and others, will be impacted by the shutdown.

Areas directly supplied by Rand Water, including Roodepoort, Central, and Soweto, will also be affected by the shutdown, while the greater Sandton area and Midrand will not experience adverse effects, Shabalala says.

“Regular updates will be provided to residents throughout the duration of the shutdown,” she adds.
