World TB Day celebrated in Ward 5

World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is observed annually on 24 March, to raise awareness about the devastating consequences of TB and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.

On the day, an event in Drieziek 5 by multistakeholders that including Gauteng Health, City of Joburg, Ward councillor and others was held under th theme “Yes! You Can End TB”.

The day started with a 2km walk around Drieziek 5 and a door-to-door campaign was conducted. Service rendered at the event were TB and HIV testing, mental health and Covid 19 screenings, high blood pressure, oral health, Home Affairs, SASSA, Department of Social Development and other Healthcare services.

Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, Stretford CHC, Ward 5 Cllr Mxolisi Ndzondo and other stakeholders were in attendance.

Ward 5 residents came in their numbers to make use of the services offered by the various stakeholders on 24 March in Drieziek 5

Effective treatment can help prevent the spread of TB.

Some TB signs include coughing for more than 3 weeks, sweating at night while sleeping, tiredness, lack of appetite and loss of weight amongst others.Healthcare workers urge residents to visit the nearest clinic for a free TB test if they notice any of these symptoms.
