Suspects shoot and kill partner during robbery in Ext 1

Following rumours that a foreign spaza owner shot and killed a suspect during a robbery in Ext 1, Orange Farms SAPS has issued a statement calling for calm and clarifying that the suspect was shot and killed by his partners.

“We plead with the community not to start looting foreign national-owned tuck shops because of false information that the tuck shop owner killed the suspect. The suspect was shot and killed by his partners in crime,” said SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Shaan Motsapi.

It is alleged that on 3 March, at about 10:30am, three suspects in possession of firearms attacked a foreign national at his tuck shop, with intentions to rob the shop.

“The shop owner and his employees were offloading stock when they were approached by the suspects who ordered the owner to go inside the shop with them. The employees managed to flee and two suspects went outside the shop, leaving their partner who was also in possession of a firearm behind. The shop owner then locked himself and the other suspect inside the shop. When the suspects who went outside could no longer gain entry, they fired shots from outside through the counter mashed burglar. In the process, they shot and killed their partner who was still inside the shop. The owner sustained injuries and was hospitalised,” Motsapi added.

A firearm was recovered and a case dockets of murder, attempted murder and armed robbery was registered for further investigation.
